The western story written by Kent Conwell is the tale of E.J. Colter who liked life simple and easy. This was the way it was for him until the day this tough rancher was surrounded by three children, two boys and a young girl. They were the children of his brother that he had not seen in eighteen years. Being a tough man that had survived a mountain lion attack had cattle to tend to and been on his own for many years a little disruption of having kids under foot would not stop E. J. Colter.
E.J. could not turn his back on kin even if they were trouble-generating hooligans. Fighting his way through a fire, a cattle drive, snakes and a bear; E. J. still survived and was enjoying the children. The rules and rewards were passed out and thing begin to run smoother. With out warning the bad element arrives and the kids are kidnapped. E.J. wasn’t going to let a few outlaws end his newfound family and destroyed the surprising new phase of his life.
The friendly man that he was turned him into a downright extrovert with the introduction of these three children. He changed as much as the children as the story continued to unfold. E.J. learned that if you have people depending on you the things that are expected increase in a multiple way.
This is a good western story with many action packed happening and could happen even today. Good should always triumph over evil and bad guy should get what they deserve. I recommend this book as a good western being easy to read and spirited in its action. The characters are simple and interesting so go to your library and check it out or another book by this western writer.
